“We offer face-to-face consultations, virtual and telephone appointments as you prefer. Please feel that you can contact the practice if you need to – we are very much still here and will help in whatever way we can. We take precautions as nationally mandated in line with up-to-date guidance.”
When you come to Professor Lees’ Clinic, she will do her best to diagnose your problem, and will guide you through discussion on what will be the best option or range of options for you. She will listen to what it is that you want and will discuss the benefits and drawbacks of each treatment option.
At your consultation our practice nurse will normally be there too. Senior Staff Nurse Alison Holmes is there to offer you additional support and advice both before and after any planned procedure. Professor Lees has a major commitment to the teaching and training of surgeons and there may well be a surgical fellow present at your consultation. If you do not want the fellow to be there please advise the reception staff as you book in.
Patients who for personal, cultural or religious reasons would like to be treated by a female-only team can be accommodated here. Please make your need known to PA Katie McGrath or to reception staff.
Your initial consultation will address your presenting concerns and your previous medical history which should include your current medication, over the counter medication, use of contraceptive pill and hormone replacement therapy. You will be asked about smoking and alcohol intake. You should be prepared to discuss any recreational drug use. A clinical examination will be performed.
If there are specific concerns relating to the anaesthetic a pre-operative anaesthetic consultation can be arranged prior to your coming into hospital.
It is good medical practice to have a written referral from your own General Practioner for which reason we will normally suggest that you discuss your situation with your own General Practioner before actually going ahead with surgery.
We aim to support your experience of surgery in the immediate postoperative period with expert nursing advice available around the clock. Details of this service will be provided at the time of discharge from hospital.
During the working week PA Katie McGrath will take your call. Out of hours and at weekends Practice Manager Ash Pawade will answer the phone between 7.00am and 10.00pm if you need to get in touch or want an appointment.
